Project Description
ROVINJ, THE COMMUNITY OF THE SEA
Full day tour by minivan with maximum 8 seats and driver.
Meeting point: Trieste.
During this tour, a journalist who loves these areas will escort you. She was born in Rovinj while she now lives and works in Trieste as a correspondent of the newspaper “La Voce del Popolo” (Fiume). She’s curated Itinerari TV shows for TV Koper and published many books about Istria and its development through the restoration of traditions, local products and a new reality.
The morning hours will be devoted to the guided tour of ROVINJ, a picturesque seaside town. It is considered a sea community for its very particular history due to the building of the town on an island after the sinking of Cissa, according to legends. Inhabited by farmers and fishermen, it never experienced feudalism due to the autonomy granted by Venice and for the economic development of small owners. Rovinj – 11.200 inhabitants – is surrounded by a ring of small islands and has a strong Venetian atmosphere. The bell tower is clearly inspired by the one of San Marco. The Serenissima Republic dominated here from the end of the thirteenth century until 1797. The signs of the streets and the shops are all bilingual – both in Croatian and Italian language.
The economic growth of this town dates back to the Habsburg period when factories of fish and tobacco were built and female labor contributed to the emancipation of the social network of the city. In the afternoon, visit the ROVINJ ISLANDS.
